What is Juvederm?

Juvederm is the world’s top dermal filler. The Juvederm collection consists of five different products, each of which is designed to meet a specific need:

JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA™ XC –This gel is used for deep cheeks area injection for correction of age- related volume loss. It is also used for chin augmentation for chin profile improvement.
JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™ XC, JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC, and JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC –These gels are injected into facial tissue for correcting moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, including the nasolabial folds. The latter are also known as laugh lines.
JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA™ XC –This gel is injected into the lips for augmentation and for correcting lines around the mouth.
JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC –This gel is injected into the lips and area immediately surrounding the mouth for lip augmentation.

How do I know if Juvederm is right for me?

Do you want to add volume to your face, plump up your lips, or contour your cheeks? Odds are Juvederm is right for you. The doctor will discuss the best dermal fillers for your individual needs.

Juvederm fillers are considered very safe. However, those with a history of serious allergic reactions in general or to lidocaine in particular should not undergo dermal filler injection. Patients undergoing immunosuppressive therapy may not prove candidates for injectables. The same holds true for those with a history of excessive scarring or pigmentation issues. Individuals with uncontrolled diabetes should not receive dermal filler injectables. Only those 21 and over may receive Juvederm injectables. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not receive dermal fillers.

Your Injectables Procedure

No preparation is necessary prior to injectables, other than not using aspirin or other medications or supplements that may cause blood thinning in the previous two weeks. If a skin infection, including acne, erupts in the target area, the procedure is postponed until healed.

Prior to the procedure, the doctor takes a medical history. Patients receive a facial analysis. The treatment area is marked beforehand with a pen. The dermal fillers are then injected into that target area. The doctor lightly massages the area afterward to make sure the filler is distributed evenly. If the injectable does move from its intended target, the doctor can provide an enzyme that breaks down HA. The entire procedure takes between 15 minutes to one hour, depending on the extent of the treatment.

Injectables Recovery

There is no downtime; after Juvederm Atlanta patients can resume their normal activities right away. Avoid strenuous exercise and stay out of the sun or excessive heat for at least 24 hours after receiving the injections. Vigorous exercise and heat increases the chances of side effects, even though these are generally minor. Some patients may experience mild side effects after injection. These include:

Redness
Bruising
Swelling
Itching

These side effects should disappear within a few days. The application of ice to the area should reduce swelling. Rarely, the dermal filler migrates to another part of the face. That is why the massage after the injection is so crucial.

Juvederm Results

Juvederm results are immediate. You will see the difference before you leave the doctor’s office. If an area needs a bit more of an injectable to obtain the desired result, the doctor can do that right away. Expect results to last from a year to 18 months for most of the Juvederm collection.

The effects of Juvederm Voluma tend to last the longest—up to two years for many people! Regular maintenance sessions not only keep lines and wrinkles at bay and prevent volume loss, but over time, extend the period for which the injectables are effective. Of course, much will depend on the individual patient.

Will it hurt?

Any discomfort from injectables is minimal. Juvederm contains lidocaine, an anesthetic, so the treatment area is numbed. You can ask the provider about applying a topical numbing cream prior to injection.

What are the risks?

While injectables are a low-risk procedure, patients may experience minor side effects such as swelling, bruising or redness for day or two post-injection.

What's the difference between Juvederm & Restylane?

Although both are HA fillers and work in similar ways, Juvederm results last longer than Restylane.

How much does it cost?
